Amazon Prime Air has begun drone deliveries in Northeast Ohio, launching service from its North Randall fulfillment center on September 24. Amazon’s Prime Air expansion now includes the Cleveland area as the company broadens commercial drone delivery across the United States.
What happened
Eligible customers within roughly 7.5 miles of the North Randall facility can receive qualifying Amazon orders by MK30 drone. The operation launched with 21 aircraft, and Amazon says the site is expected to add 55 jobs.
Eligible packages must weigh five pounds or less and fit within Amazon’s size limits. Customers select drone delivery during checkout when both the item and address qualify.
Why it matters
Cleveland is becoming an unusually concentrated autonomous-delivery market. Amazon is entering the region while Cleveland Clinic is already using Zipline for prescription delivery, putting two very different aerial-delivery models into the same metropolitan area.
The launch also matters because Amazon is no longer treating Prime Air as a small pilot program. The company has said it intends to expand Prime Air to nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns during 2026.
That scale would move the competitive question from whether drone delivery works to which operators can build dense, reliable logistics networks fastest.
