Grab Indonesia and SKYY Launch BVLOS Food-Delivery Drone Pilot in Bali

1–2 minutes

Grab Indonesia and SKYY Network have launched a three-month food-delivery drone pilot in Bali connecting Café del Mar Bali and Nuanu Creative City, using A2Z Drone Delivery aircraft and autonomous docking infrastructure.

What happened

Customers place orders through Grab, with drones handling the middle-mile flight segment and ground delivery partners completing the final handoff. SKYY Network is operating the flights, while A2Z Drone Delivery is supplying its Longtail Dual aircraft and AirDock infrastructure.

Industry reporting says the operation includes beyond-visual-line-of-sight flights under authorization from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation in controlled airspace near Ngurah Rai International Airport. The pilot is scheduled to run for three months.

Why it matters

The Bali trial is notable because it combines an established on-demand marketplace, a local drone-services operator and a dedicated aircraft-and-docking platform in a hybrid delivery workflow. That model is closer to how commercial autonomous logistics may scale than a standalone drone demonstration.

The use of autonomous docking also matters. Persistent launch, recovery and charging infrastructure can reduce the labor required to operate repeated delivery missions and could support additional logistics, inspection or emergency-response use cases from the same network.

What to watch

  • Flight volume and reliability during the three-month trial
  • Expansion to additional Grab merchants or Bali routes
  • Use of AirDock infrastructure for other commercial missions
  • Whether Grab extends drone delivery into additional Southeast Asian markets
