Amazon Prime Air is now live in Tracy, California. Amazon’s official Prime Air locations page lists Tracy under “Available now,” marking the company’s return to commercial drone delivery in California after ending its earlier Lockeford operation in 2024.
What happened
Amazon had been preparing to launch Prime Air from its East Grant Line Road facility in Tracy and told local media in late August that service was expected within roughly a month. As of September 28, Amazon’s own Prime Air site identifies Tracy as an active delivery market rather than a coming-soon location.
The service uses Amazon’s MK30 delivery aircraft and is designed for eligible packages weighing up to five pounds. Earlier local reporting said the Tracy operation would serve customers within roughly a 7.5-mile radius of the facility, with eligible orders arriving in as little as 30 minutes.
Why it matters
Tracy gives Prime Air a California operating market again and adds another live site during Amazon’s broader 2026 expansion. The company has said it intends to reach nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of the year, making each new operating location a useful test of how quickly that national buildout is translating from announced markets into actual service.
The California return is also notable because Lockeford was one of Amazon’s earliest U.S. drone-delivery markets. Moving the service to Tracy ties Prime Air to an existing Amazon facility and reflects the company’s newer strategy of integrating drone operations more directly into its fulfillment network.
